Physics Student of Udayana University Makes History by Reaching the National Final of ONMIPA-PT 2026
Denpasar – A remarkable achievement has once again been accomplished by a student of the Physics Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University. Gede Mahendra Sastra Adhi Wiguna, a Physics student from the 2023 cohort, successfully advanced to the National Final Round of the National Olympiad of Mathematics and Natural Sciences for Higher Education Students (ONMIPA-PT) 2026 in the field of Physics.
ONMIPA-PT is one of Indonesia’s most prestigious academic competitions, organized annually by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology since 2006. The competition serves as a platform for outstanding university students across the country to demonstrate their academic excellence and problem-solving abilities in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
In 2026, Mahendra achieved a historic milestone for the Physics Study Program of Udayana University by qualifying for the National Final Round, which was held from June 8–11, 2026, at Airlangga University, Surabaya. This accomplishment is particularly significant considering the highly competitive nature of ONMIPA, where only the most talented students from universities throughout Indonesia earn the opportunity to compete at the national level.
Mahendra’s journey to the national stage was far from easy. Prior to the final round, he participated in the regional selection process representing Region VIII. Demonstrating exceptional academic ability and perseverance, he achieved the highest score in the regional competition, securing his place as the official representative of Region VIII in the national final.
At the national level, participants in the Physics category were challenged with a comprehensive examination covering a wide range of advanced topics, including Classical Mechanics, Thermodynamics and Statistical Physics, Electrodynamics, Modern Physics, and Quantum Physics. Mahendra competed alongside 63 other finalists from leading universities across Indonesia, all striving to earn national recognition and prestigious medals.
Reaching the national final is the result of a long and demanding preparation process. Through dedication, consistent practice, and intensive mentoring provided by faculty members, Mahendra demonstrated that perseverance and hard work can lead to extraordinary achievements. Although he did not secure a medal in this year’s final competition, his accomplishment remains a source of great pride for the Physics Study Program and Udayana University.
More importantly, Mahendra’s success serves as tangible evidence that students of the Physics Study Program at Udayana University are capable of competing at the highest national level. His achievement reflects the quality of academic development, student mentoring, and learning culture that continue to be fostered within the department.
This milestone is expected to inspire other students to pursue excellence, embrace challenges, and actively participate in academic competitions. It demonstrates that with determination, discipline, and continuous learning, students can reach their full potential and compete successfully on national and even international stages.
The entire academic community of the Physics Study Program, Udayana University, extends its heartfelt congratulations to Gede Mahendra Sastra Adhi Wiguna for this outstanding achievement. May this accomplishment become a stepping stone toward even greater successes in the future and inspire more students to bring honor to the Physics Study Program and Udayana University through academic excellence and innovation.
