History
The Physics Study Program which is now under the auspices of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Universitas Udayana was formed through the Decree of the Chancellor of Universitas Udayana No. 613/PT.17/I.a.012/1984 dated July 1, 1984. One of the basic considerations for the issuance of the above decision was the understanding to form a special forum for dealing with the basic sciences. In addition, it is also realized that the development process in various fields through the use of applied sciences is in dire need of support from the development and mastery of basic sciences.
Furthermore, the decision of the Chancellor above was followed up by the Directorate General of Higher Education with the issuance of the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education No. 63/DIKTI/Kep/1988 which decided that the position of the Physics Study Sub-program was managed under the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Udayana. The decree also states that this sub-program of study is an undergraduate program (S1) and is an inter-faculty study program which in its implementation is carried out in collaboration with FMIPA Airlangga University and FMIPA Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November Surabaya.
Based on the Decree of the Director General No. 92/DIKTI/Kep/1989 dated 20 September 1989; then the Physics Study Sub-program was changed to the Physics Study Program. This study program is an Inter-Faculty Study Program under the Chancellor and is a Strata 1 (S-1) Program. Then, through the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 0382/0/1993 dated October 22, 1993 it was decided to form the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Universitas Udayana which consists of 3 study programs (PS), namely PS. Physics, PS. Chemistry and PS. Biology. Finally, with the issuance of the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education SK No. 07/Dikti/Kep/1994 dated January 15, 1994, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Universitas Udayana was declared to consist of 3 departments, namely the Department of Physics, the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Biology.
Based on Permenristek Dikti RI No. 30 of 2016, the Department of Physics is treated as a Physics Study Program, and since 2018 the personnel of the Physics Study Program consists of a Coordinator who is selected and determined based on the Rector's Decree. Thus, structurally the position of the physics study program is following the structure of the study program according to the Organizational Structure and Position of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Udayana. Viewed from the perspective of education administration, study program management is the executor and manager of academic, research and community service activities at the study program level, utilizing resources effectively and efficiently in an effort to achieve the goals and objectives of the study program.
In accordance with the development of science and technology as well as the needs of society, the Physics Study Program of FMIPA UNUD has developed areas of expertise, namely the areas of expertise in Material Physics and Optoelectronics, Biophysics, Instrumentation and Computing, Earth Physics and Medical Physics. Thus, it is hoped that graduates of the Physics Study Program, FMIPA UNUD, can take on a role and fill the science and technology needs of the community.
