Opening Disaster Mitigation Program of Physics Study Program 2026

On Friday, April 24, 2026, the Opening Ceremony of the 2026 Disaster Mitigation Program of the Physics Study Program was held in Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, as part of the implementation of the Impactful Internship Program  (Magang Berdampak) independently managed by Universitas Udayana. This program reflects the university’s commitment to promoting experiential learning that not only strengthens students’ academic competencies but also encourages meaningful contributions to society through community engagement and empowerment.

This year, the program involves 15 students from the Physics Study Program who will undertake a six-month series of disaster mitigation activities. Throughout the program, the students will participate in various initiatives, including public education, community assistance, capacity-building for disaster preparedness, and the application of scientific approaches to support mitigation efforts and disaster risk reduction in the target area. Through active collaboration with local communities, government institutions, and other stakeholders, the students are expected to contribute as part of the solution in strengthening community resilience.

The Disaster Mitigation Program is also designed as a platform to enhance both students’ hard skills and soft skills, ranging from the practical application of scientific knowledge and technical competencies in the field, to problem-solving, leadership, communication, teamwork, and social adaptability within disaster-related contexts. Through direct engagement with communities, students are expected to develop greater social awareness, empathy, and a collaborative spirit as part of shaping impactful and socially responsible graduates.

Through this program, the Physics Study Program of Universitas Udayana aspires for the Impactful Internship Program  to serve not only as a valuable learning experience for students, but also as a tangible contribution of higher education institutions in supporting community resilience toward disasters. With a spirit of collaboration and sustainability, the program is expected to generate long-term benefits for both student capacity development and the communities involved.
